The project started in 1992 with the aim to investigate ecology and population structures for wood-fungi, in spruce forests. The forests were selected to represent various degree of influence from management. Questions: Which are the ecologocal consequences for remaining wood-fungi in a forest with low biodiversity compasred with their niches in a virgin forest. Is the absence of rare species in managed forests a consequence of lack of forest continuity, suitable niches, suitable climate, or dispersal barriers. In farticular, those factors which enhance biodiversity in managed forests will be dealt with.
