I’m currently working on my PhD thesis within Material Chemistry with the focus on high temperature corrosion of thin stainless steels used as bipolar plates in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). My research primarily focus on the understanding of the most important degradation mechanisms associated to the too short life time for this technology to be considered as economically interesting. An important part of my research is also to, together with the industry, develop new materials which are able to prolong the life time of the fuel cell without increasing costs significantly. By coating the steel with nano-thin coatings consisting of Cobalt and Cerium, the two most important degradation mechanisms, oxide scale growth and chromium species vaporization, have been reduced significantly. |
